First Grade is a child's first experience in a religious education setting. Although faith formation begins at home, a child attends religious education to enrich what has begun to be taught through family life experience. Here a child is invited to grow in a personal relationship with God. The text Finding God: Our Response to God's Gifts, Loyola Press, prepares children as learners on a faith journey by weaving together experiences in prayer, Scripture, Catholic social teaching, and liturgy.

This year is also the beginning of a two year process in preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. First Reconciliation preparation begins in the summer after successful completion of our First Grade program. The sacrament is received during the Advent season of Second Grade.

First Eucharist preparation begins in the First Grade as children learn about Jesus and God's great love for each of them. Preparation is formally completed in the Second Grade, with children receiving the sacrament during the Easter Season of Second Grade.

Classes are offered on Sunday Mornings at 10:15 and on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:45. Family Faith Formation for Grade 1 children, which meets monthly, is also available for families.
